ARTEMIS D. BEAR
Co-founder & mentor
Artemis D. Bear (they/them) is a parent, home educator, registered childminder, Forest School Leader and qualified teacher. An engineer by training, their background is in environmental policy but since becoming a parent, education has become the focus of their intellectual curiosity. Artemis founded and has been running The Garden, a self directed learning community for all school aged young people, since 2016. They also work for Phoenix Education leading the Freedom to Learn programme and co-founded UBI Lab Bristol.
TIM RUTHERFORD
Co-founder & mentor
Tim Rutherford (he/him) is a parent and home educator. He has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, a Secondary Mathematics PGCE and a particular interest in how people learn mathematics outside formal settings. Tim ran a maker space for home education young people and has been a mentor at The Garden since September 2021. He is also involved in the community agriculture project Street Goat and UBI Lab Bristol.
